Bentley Map V8i (SELECTseries 10) Help

Typical MicroStation Workspace Operation

After a workspace has been defined in Bentley Geospatial Administrator and the appropriate files and macros have been defined, the workspace is exported. The following process is executed. The actual commands being executed can be shown by turning verbose on (Tools > Options > Verbose) and then displaying the message center by double-clicking in the lower left corner.

  1. A folder, named after the workspace, is created in the workspace root and project parent folder as defined in the project.
  2. Subfolders and XML files are created for the various Map feature and operation methods:
    EXPORTXMLCOMMAND SUCCESSFULLY CREATED C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\ALL USERS\APPLICATION DATA\BENTLEY\POWERMAPV8I\WORKSPACE\PROJECTS\EXAMPLES\GEOSPATIAL\CADASTRE\XML\FEATURES\FEATURES.XML
  3. Subfolders are created and files copied for the various folders described in the workspace section:
    EXPORTXMLCOMMAND SUCCESSFULLY CREATED C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\ALL USERS\APPLICATION DATA\BENTLEY\MICROSTATION\WORKSPACE\PROJECTS\EXAMPLES\GEOSPATIAL\CADASTRE\XML\FEATURES\FEATURES.XML
  4. A CFG file, named after the workspace is created in the user's workspace root folder (MS_GEOWSHOME):
    EXPORTFILECOMMAND SUCCESSFULLY EXPORTED TO C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\ALL USERS\APPLICATION DATA\BENTLEY\ MICROSTATION \WORKSPACE\PROJECTS\EXAMPLES\GEOSPATIAL\CADASTRE\EASTCITY\EASTCITY.CFG
  5. A UCF file is created in the user's folder of the workspace root directory. The UCF file is named after the project name and the workspace name:
    EXPORTFILECOMMAND SUCCESSFULLY EXPORTED TO C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\ALL USERS\APPLICATION DATA\BENTLEY\ MICROSTATION \WORKSPACE\USERS\CADASTRE_EASTCITY.UCF
  6. Optionally a shortcut can be created using the Shortcut tool. The arguments on the shortcut will be something like below. The folder pointed to in the arguments is that pointed to by the variable MS_WSHOME:
  7. The path shown above is the standard MicroStation workspace path defined by the variable _USTN_WORKSPACEROOT in msconfig.cfg.
